Vaguely Sunny August Concerts Here is an update to let yoiu know about Vaguely Sunny events for the month of August. We are delighted that one of the UK's leading piano accordion players - the wonderful Karen Tweed - will be here for two solo concerts. Karen has appearec here twice before with her previous group The Poozies. She came to the Island in February this year on a short break, and after visiting both the Old Church at Bonchurch and Dimbola Lodge at Freshwater Bay, she expressed a wish to play in both places.
The concert at Bonchurch Old Church will be on Thursday, August 12th at 7.30pm and is part of the Ventnor Fringe Festival - please see www.vfringe.co.uk
The concert at Dimbola will be on Friday 13th Augusat at 8.00pm. At Dimbola there will also be the opportunity of seeing Charles Everest's superb photographs from the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival and also an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Miles Davis.
Karen will have a special guest at both concerts.
Karen is a charismatic, witty, elegant and enchanting performer. The two concerts will see Karen exploring her roots in the Irish traditon, mingled with tunes from Scandinavia and England, as well as her own beautiful and moving compositions.
Refreshments will be avilable at both concerts. Please be aware though that Dimbola has no alcohol licence, so if you need a beer there plesae bring your own.
Tickets for both concerts are £10.00 each. You can book by telephoning me on 01983-730930. Audience numbers will be limited to fifty at Bonchurch and fifty five at Dimbola, so early booking is advised.
In addition, we will be staging another concert in the Ventnor Fringe Festival on Saturday, August 14th at Venue Two at St Catherines Church, Ventnor. This will feature both Holly Kirby and Groovecat who will be playing a half each. As you are probably aware, nineteen year old Holly has had quite a high profile on the Island recently. Her excellent debut CD 'A Woman You Don't Know' is now on sale in HMV in Newport for just £10.00 - highly recommended if you don't already own a copy. Groovecat are a great little acoustic/roots/fusion band with excelllent vocals.
Tickets for this gig are a bargain £5.00. It will start at 7.00pm so that people can go to the gig and then also be able to see the Illuminated Carnival procession afterwards. To book please ring 01983-730930.
