Martin Simpson and Danny Thompson Our first event of 2010 - in partnership with Backhander - will see two pre-eminent musicians playing as a duo - Martin Simpson and Danny Thompson. This concert will take place at the Winter Gardens, Ventnor on Sunday, 21st February at 8.00pm. This special concert is not part of a longer tour.
Martin Simpson is without question one of the world's finest finger-style guitar players. His ability to play detailed and complex tunes with complicated rhythms whilst providing solid vocals is masterful and has earned him no less than six different nominations in various categories for the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Double bass maestro Danny Thompson will be making his first appearance on the Isle of Wight since the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival when he was a member of Pentangle.
Danny's career has spanned 55 years and counting. He has playeed with virtually every major artist over the past five decades, and features on over a thousand albums and countless singles. soundtracks and sessions. Having started in the house band at Ronnie Scott's at the tender age of 16, his musical journey has taken him from the back streets of Soho to the rarefied atmosphere of Carnegie Hall as well as encompassing musical collaborations with prominent musicians from Africa. India, America and Europe
