Butterfly Benefit Concerts

Further to Ventnor's growing reputation as a Butterfly town, we are organising two concerts in support of the Isle of Wight Branch of the National Butterfly Conservation Charity. These will be held at St Catherines Church, Church Street, Ventnor on Friday, 17 September and Saturday, 18 September.

Mike Plumbley of Vaguely Sunny is a butterfly enthusiast. I mentioned this to Worcester-based singer/songwriter Deborah Hodgson last August when she was also telling me of her great interest in all things connected with butterflies. Shortly after that I read an article in Island Life magazine which mentioned the Butterfly Conservation Charity. Hence the idea to arrange the concerts came about.

Musicians appearing in the concerts are as follows :

Friday, September 17th

Cephalodidge - didgeridoo player who appeared at Folk Station this summer and during the Ventnor Fringe. For further details please go to www.myspace.com/cephalodidge

Deborah Hodgson - a singer/songwriter with a great voice who I first met at the Isle of Wight Festival last year after she had played in the Big Top on the Saturday. Deborah subsequently returned to perform a concert at St Mary's Church, Brading last November, and to play at the Folk Station Festival at Havenstreet this July.

Luke Steen - Luke has just completed a BA in Music at Platform One - the Island's music college. He is the lead singer/rhythm guitarist in All Seasons Ale Club, the drummer in Forte and the session drummer in Little Girl Shy.

Michael Champion - former member of The Hoops and now guitarist/vocalist with the highly-regarded Island band The Shutes.

Rob Wilson - Ventnor's butterfly expert who is also a musician.

Saturday, August 18th

Paul Armfield - needs no introduction.

Deborah Hodgson - see above.

Holly Kirby - this will be Holly's last Island appearance before she goes to Surrey University. Best wishes fort the future, Holly.

The Halsey Duo - classical music from James Halsey (cello) and his daughter Sally (piano)

Rob Wilson - see above.

Both concerts start at 7.30pm

Tickets for both concerts are £5.00 each.
