Matt Schofield, Riverside,

Matt Schofield Trio

October Blues

With Quay Arts currently not featuring the genre in their programming, Amen Promotions (masterminded by Tim and Dave Hollis) have now taken om the role as the main promoters on the Island for Blues.

Tim and Dave are also memners of the excellent Amen Boogie Blues Band who got this Riverside gig off to a solid start with a smooth and steady set of Blues covers, including material by Sonny Boy Williamson and Muddy Waters. Dave is a seasoned Blues vocalist. His delivery of the songs and chugging harmonica playing gave the material a good edge.

Headlining guitarist Matt Schofield's Trio also comprised of Jonny Henderson on organ and Evan Jenkins on drums. Matt's growling vocals and punchy guitar added to the characteristic clear ringing tones of the Hammond were a powerful combination, as the band featured material from their current album 'Siftin'Thru Ashes'.

A slow Albert Collins song built up to an intense crescendo. The material was both 'funky and bluesy at at the same time' as Matt himself described it to the audience. A long version of the Box Tops and Joe Cocker classic 'The Letter' was a highpoint of the set. allowing space for both drum and organ solos.

The gig was well supported and the sound - provided by Widget Audio - was excellent.

The next Amen Promotions gig will be Spring Blues next year featuring the return of the highly-rated Blues vocalist/guitarist Ian Siegal which will take place at The Venue @ Ryde Theatre.
